Use of Personal Email by Government Personnel

In a prior post, I wrote that sometimes government personnel use personal systems to conduct government business.  I suggested that it is not a good idea.

A Reuters article authored by Nate Raymond, Former Fauci adviser pleads guilty to conspiring to conceal records (Aug. 19, 2026), reinforces that idea:

A former adviser to infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci pleaded guilty on Tuesday to conspiring to evade public records laws and conceal government documents related to grant research funding and the COVID-19 pandemic….  The 78-year-old had been indicted in April on charges related to what prosecutors said was a scheme to thwart public records requests received by the agency beginning in April 2020 related to COVID-19 research grants.

The relevant part of the Reuters article is:  “Anticipating their communications would be sought through Freedom of Information Act requests, Morens and others agreed to correspond using Morens’ personal email account instead of his government one, prosecutors said.” [emphasis added].
